Christianity

Fr Bill McNichols – I adore icons. These are in the classic Russian icon style, but are modern, often depicting unconventional ‘saints.’

Feminism and Religion – There are many big name players that write for this collective space. “Exploring the F-word in religion and the intersection between scholarship, activism, and community.”

Love, Joy, Feminism – A great blog by an atheist raised in a Fundamentalist Christian family. She is highly critical of all patriarchal Christian culture, yet she manages to make things personal. Highly recommended.

The Orthodox Church in America – I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Orthodoxy.

Sacred Space – A daily prayer site, by Irish Jesuits. I remember being one of the early users of this site over a decade ago. A quiet, reflective space, using scripture to guide you through a devotional practice.

Mary: New Century Theology by Sarah Boss – A slim, beautiful, slightly less traditional book on Mary. I found this as I was finishing up my master’s thesis and it inspired me to apply for my PhD. I tracked Boss down and she was my supervisor while I was working on my PhD (which I later quit).

Mary in Doctrine and Devotion by Hilda Graef – For the hardcore among you. A huge volume detailing all ‘major’ theologians’ writings on Mary.

Mary Through the Centuries by Jaroslav Pelikan – One of the go-to books on the Virgin Mary. Just what the title suggests.

Sexism and God-Talk by Rosemary Radford Reuther – This book is a classic in the field of feminist theology. First published in 1983, this is one of the books that fueled my desire to pursue theology at the graduate levels. RRR was one of my advisers for my master’s degree.

The Orthodox Church and The Orthodox Way  by Kalistos Ware – Two excellent introductions to the Eastern Orthodox tradition. The first one focuses on the history and structure of the Church; the second one focuses more on the theology and practice.
